Project Goals: To provide individual counselling for 5-15 emergent Christian leaders to be agents of Kingdom transformation in their communities during and after a 3-month experience in South Africa.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Christ-Centred Counselling towards healing and wholeness. 
  • Available for counselling 5-6 days per week, depending on the needs.
  • Available for 2-3 Weekly meetings with leadership and staff for planning and integrating process.
  • Record counsellee’s session progress and evaluate/adopt the journey as needed.
  • Be willing to also serve as Sojourner to a small group of 3-5 people during the program (Please refer to the Sojourner Position on the platform and also complete the Sojourner Application form).
  • Assess and give feedback as required for certification
  • Reporting based on the reporting templates which will be provided. Individual cases will not have to be reported on, the focus of the reporting will centre around the general need for counselling, the typical needs expressed by the participants, during sessions, as well as other general trends which you might observe during the counselling sessions. 
Skills and Requirements:
  •  Ability to be, as well as the skills in methodology to facilitate a safe space that holds people’s struggles and draws them to move towards Healing, Wellness and Wholeness  in and through Christ.
  • Ability to be slow in talking, patient in listening, and to ask empowering questions.
  • Ability to apply scripture in a facilitating and empowering counselling process.
  • Commitment to seek and discern Hope for the counselling process.
  • Understanding healing and wholeness from a Christ-centred holistic perspective.
  • Commitment to facilitate a journey and not a quick fix.
  • Ability to practice healthy self-disclosure.
  • Insights on referral. 
  • A basic personal and interpersonal health and demonstrate being active in growing and working on personal issues.
  • Training in biblical counselling and a passion for Christ relevance in counselling that value and strive towards holistic biblical counselling considering Body, Soul, Spirit.
  • Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology, or other applicable fields.
  • Experience: Experiences in Biblical counselling; experience in cross-cultural settings is beneficial.
  • Communication skills in English (e.g. one on one conversation, it is important to be able to communicate using abstract and practical terms, planning clarity).
  • Commitment to seek to follow Jesus, be an example of discipleship, servant leadership, and give your best in extra mile service. Also, to the ITL Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Expect the unexpected, be open to keep on discovering (grow, learn) and to serve outside the picture established before as an ALICT participant (i.e looking from “the outside” as ALICT volunteer staff).

Other relevant information:

  • International transport, local work-related transport, as well as accommodation and food is the responsibility of ITL ALICT.
  • A valid passport with 3 unused pages and an expiry date at least 6 months after your return, please apply for a new passport ASAP if needed.
  • Participating in empowering and equipping (with aspects of care and supervision) for the role in the 2 months prior to ALICT will be expected.
