FAQ's about ALICT

ALICT is the flagship program of the Institute for Transformational Leadership (ITL) — a three-month residential leadership training program held in South Africa.
Through ALICT, ITL trains and equips emerging Christian leaders from around the world to usher in the Spirit, principles, and work of the Kingdom of God within the sectors they are called to influence.

An ALICT participant is an emerging Christian leader, aged 23 to 35, who is committed to living a life of purpose and calling for the Kingdom. Participants come from a wide range of professional sectors and nations.

The ALICT curriculum is designed to empower, form, and transform emerging leaders so that they can live out their calling and impact their communities.

It includes six key leadership dimensions:

  1. Spiritual Leadership
  2. Self Leadership
  3. Facilitative Leadership – e.g. dealing with conflict and facilitating decision-making
  4. Empowering Leadership – equipping others through discipleship and strengths-based leadership
  5. Organizational Leadership
  6. Strategic and Entrepreneurial Leadership

The program combines lectures, projects, leadership models, interactive discussions, assignments, peer feedback, and practical challenges — including outdoor experiences, mentorship through weekly Sojourner meetings, and devotional disciplines such as silent retreats.Empowerment happens through learning (perspective and insight), formation (skills and habits), and transformation (identity, healing, and calling).

ALICT alumni are equipped to lead with integrity, serve with discernment, and multiply impact through discipleship and empowerment.

The program ignites these leaders, equipping them with not only fresh perspectives but also skills and competencies needed to lead transformation in their sectors effectively and efficiently.

Our alumni lead hundreds of different programs across a multitude of sectors — all focused on seeing God’s Kingdom transform their communities and workplaces.

Today, over 500 alumni from 117 nations are living out this vision — including doctors, teachers, business owners, artists, journalists, farmers, pastors, and nonprofit leaders. Each one seeks to see God’s Kingdom transform their sector and community.

ALICT believes that true transformation — of individuals, communities, and society as a whole — can only happen through the power of Christ and a holistic approach to life, faith, and leadership.

FAQ's About Our Alumni Leader Programmes

  • The Sojourner Programme

For six to nine months after completing ALICT, each participant continues their journey through the Sojourner Programme — a structured mentorship and support system designed to help them transition from training to action.
Each graduate is paired with an ALICT alumni mentor for one-on-one sessions. Together, they focus on implementing the participant’s community transformation project (developed during ALICT) and supporting their reintegration into everyday life and leadership.

In addition, participants are connected to:
– A regional small group of ALICT alumni in their country or area — creating space for ongoing connection, encouragement, and collaboration with like-minded leaders.
– A sector-based alumni group, bringing together graduates who share a similar calling or professional focus — such as education, healthcare, youth development, business, or ministry.

Through these connections, the Sojourner Programme ensures that every ALICT graduate is supported, guided, and equipped to live out lasting transformation in their community and field.

  • Online Support Platform

Through our online ALICT Family platform, we provide ongoing support to our alumni in multiple ways — ensuring they continue to grow, connect, and lead with purpose long after completing the program.

Equipping
We offer alumni continuous learning opportunities through online training sessions and workshops designed to strengthen leadership and personal growth. These sessions focus on developing new insights, gaining practical tools, and building capacity to foster sustainable and effective community transformation.

Resourcing
Alumni have access to the ITL GetFund crowdfunding platform, which helps them raise funds for their community-based projects. In addition, we assist with volunteer mobilization and provide workplace tools to support their initiatives. We also run a Small Grant Program and a Seeding Enterprise Program to help alumni grow and sustain their community transformation projects.

Connecting
We foster ongoing connection through the Global ALICT community, which includes WhatsApp groups, online “Global Connect” meetings, annual retreats, and sector-based support networks. Alumni also engage in regional groups, building relationships with peers in their local areas.

Helping
In times of crisis, we offer practical support — including assistance with fundraising, legal aid, trauma counseling, or emergency relief — ensuring that no alumnus walks alone through challenges.

Growing
We provide free counseling and coaching services from professionals, helping alumni maintain holistic well-being and long-term impact. Additionally, alumni are invited to participate in an online retreat, offering space for rest, reflection, and renewal.

Yes. Several alumni contribute or assist in fundraising efforts for ALICT. However, many focus their giving and service within their own local communities, which aligns with ALICT’s multiplying vision.

Words from our donors

“The ALICT program has achieved an impressive global impact in developing emerging Christian leaders from every corner of the earth. It is a three-month, residential, immersive, Christ-centered and thoroughly biblical training experience that both transforms the life and leadership of those who are privileged to attend and has a multiplying impact after the delegates return to their home countries empowered and trained. The Sower’s Trust is proud to have ALICT as a partner and is committed to continuing to support Johan and his team in this strategic endeavor.”
Jeremy Clampett
Trustee, Sower’s Trust (South Africa)
“ALICT is unashamedly a Christian-based organization that understands the mission of the church, as an interdenominational global body of believers, to be the embodiment of the teachings of Jesus Christ as documented in the Bible, and to be disseminated by the leadership of the faith to transform communities accordingly. This message of authentic transformation of humans, communities, and environment — to be a true expression of faith, hope, and love — must be known and practiced all across the globe. Hence, each year more and more participants to the leadership transformation course in South Africa (and in other formations) are invited to participate.”
Prof. Cornie Groenewald
DPhil, Emeritus Professor of Sociology, Stellenbosch University
“ITL believes that true transformation of communities and ultimately society as a whole is only done in the power of Christ and by means of a holistic approach to life, faith, and leadership. Many of the key leaders in our partner ministries have been trained by ITL, so we have seen many times firsthand the great work of ministry and the formidable footprint of their alumni spread across the continent.”
Marnus Klopper
former Strategy Director for Africa, Maclellan Foundation
